Philippe Thierry

Intel

Senior Principal Engineer

Description

Philippe Thierry  is a Senior Principal Engineer within the Intel  Datacenter and AI Group. He leads the workload research, analysis and prediction team focusing on performance and power modeling of real applications to influence future designs. Dedicated to any applications requiring High performance computing resources, his team develops methods for characterization and performance prediction of AI and scientific computing with or without AI acceleration. The main objective of his work is full system designs, starting at the SOC level and including  what-if analysis and TCO modeling. As the heterogeneity of current systems and the emergence of new AI applications have greatly complexified the performance prediction methods, Phil’s  favorite research themes focus on techniques to compensate for approximative abstracted models that are needed to handle various granularities and accuracies. Part of this work is done within codesign projects with dedicated partners  to ensure that the most up to date customers feedback will influence our designs, including novel technologies as immersive cooling. Philippe obtained a Ph.D. in Geophysics on seismic imaging from Paris School of Mines, France, after a MS degree in earth science and BS in mathematics. He has been with Intel for over 18 years after 13 years as a Research Assistant on Seismic Imaging and HPC at Paris School of Mines and a short stay at SGI France.
