How is digital metallurgy accelerating the development of tomorrow's aeronautical alloys?

Recent advances in the field of artificial intelligence are generating a multitude of new uses, including in materials science and metallurgy. Alloy design is an interesting playing field due to its inherent combinatorial complexity, which stems from the necessary consideration of numerous material and process parameters. In this context, AI can be seen as a collection of techniques offering a new methodological framework for optimizing materials with respect to application specifications. The diversity of these techniques results in a diversity of uses, so that talking about "artificial intelligence for alloy design" only makes sense by specifying the stages at which it can intervene. A few examples will be discussed, which will fuel the debate around the paradigm shift linked to this new framework. What place should AI be given in relation to usual methods that have proven their worth, and how should its efficient and ethical integration with simulations and experiments be ensured? What means should be developed? What skills should be deployed, and what collaborations should be established? In other words, what to keep and what to change?
